Richard has played several different roles during the lifecycle of several different projects, and always delivered quality as well as successful relationship with third parties.
In the beginning of the Reticle Handler project, Richard was given specifications for a motor and encoder. The motor design was especially challenging due to the volume constraints. Richard worked with our engineering team to finalize the working specifications. Then Richard located a company in CA, whose specialty was custom motors. He then became the facilitator and enabler to first change our requirements so that they could understand and use them. Second he helped develop the planning and delivery schedule with both the internal and the external teams. This was a very successful project and delivered on time to the correct specifications.
In 2005 Richard was asked to find a company that could make an encoder to replace a low reliability chip encoder from firm in Mass. The specifications of this chip encoder were at the bounds of existing technology, because of the constraints on size, head dissipation and they contained nanometer accuracy, repeatability, large capture range, and demanded large angular capture range. Richard recommended a German company and had us talk to their representative. Once again this had to be an ASML custom design, but based on technology that this firm already had. Richard played a pivotal role in getting both sides to focus on the necessary specifications, balancing the needs over both companies to ensure success of the project. As the realization took place Richard initiated regular meetings both companies at different levels to secure the project and to promote the relationship for further developments with this third party. This project was also a very successful and saved our company, ASML, very large amount of money in scrap and rework costs caused by the reliability of the chip encoder from the Mass firm.

I have worked with Richard on a number of automation projects requiring motion control. Richard has supplied electrical hardware and intricate knowledge for successful integration of these projects. He brings to the table a high degree of professionalism and is a good sounding board for new ideas.

Richard helped us when we were redesigning part of our reticle handling unit. He helped us to make a design that reduced the cycle time of the machine, improved its alignment accuracy and reduce overall cost of material and labor. Rich's help on this project was very valuable.
