MenuHow do I market my consulting line to gain traffic?
What are some pointers on how to increase the amount of people I can help?
Answers
- You must first understand that you are a brand(work on your personal branding so you can be desirable)
- Boost your social media profile and update your LinkedIn. Make sure the posts you share on social media are captivating and good enough for people to repost. You can also do a paid advert for your post that has a lot of engagements. (Maximise your social media)
- Narrow down on the type of clients you want to attract(youths? Adults? Middle aged people?), think of how to get in touch with them, attend events where you can network and sell yourself.
- Send direct emails to the contacts you have. Cherish those business cards, don’t be ashamed to get contacts, give cold calls too.
Ayomiku makes some good points. However, don't underestimate the power of building your own website to attract new customers. It's the one place you can be sure that you can arrange the information the way you want it.
Maybe you're not ready for a website, though. In that case, focus on places you can make connections such as LinkedIn (this is a very good place for business to business connections) and even here on Clarity. Clarity is free to join, and pretty easy to set up.
Once you get some clients, ask them to review you on sites that you have joined, or post it to your website if you have one. Showing that people have done business with you and are satisfied can make a huge difference in the number of new people who want to do business with you.
Whatever you do, focus on how you can help someone. They'll be more likely to do business with you than if you try pushy sales tactics.
I believe that the best way to spread the word about your consulting line keeping covid-19 rules in mind would be internet marketing. There are five P’s of the internet marketing which are product, people, price, promotion, and place. Sit with you team and discuss these out in details. For example, let us take product. What are the questions that you can raise? Well, you can discuss the functionality of your product, appearance of your product, quality, packaging, brand, warranty, and service of your product through the internet. This way people will come to know about your business and connect with you and buy your product which in this case is consulting.

One great way to increase traffic to your business is to invest in advertising. Facebook Ads, when consistent and done right, can increase your profits in a big way and allow for you to gain the recognition you're looking for to gain that traffic. If you can, I'd start here and figure out your target audience to ensure your ad speaks directly to that person. If you're not sure about your target audience definitely start there to determine the type of messaging your ad needs.
I hope this helps!

Should I start a consulting service in a large city, or should I stay in a medium sized city?
Because of the nature of your consulting business (web development) you have the advantage of being able to effectively offer your services remotely. I think more important than deciding between a large or small city, is finding a city where you would enjoy living and building a network. Is there a city where you have a critical mass of friends, family, potential business partners? Is there a city you'd simply be happier in because it fits your lifestyle, whether it's access to outdoors or city living? Do you have a more specific market segment you'd like as your clients? Do you want to service just tech startups? Health tech startups? Larger companies? Unless you plan to really narrow down into a specific niche, like consulting just for the aerospace industry where the companies are usually found in a specific city or region, web development offers you a lot of geographic flexibility. More and more companies like Automatic or Zapier have completely remote teams and the trend towards that is only accelerating. Choose a city where you'll be happiest and most likely to be able to participate in the lifestyle the city provides. Not only will you be more productive if you're happy, you'll have more opportunities to grow your network organically by meeting friends through your hobbies or social activities that then turn into clients. I'd caution against being overly analytical or coldly rational when making this decision. Follow your gut. Choose a city you'd love to live in and grow a business in. I know wildly wealthy and successful entrepreneurs in cities both small and large.JI

I'm a consultant in the US. How do I attract and sell myself to talented remote web and graphic designers as someone great to work for?
Hi there, I've built and scaled 3 management consulting businesses to $1M+ in the past 5 years. I'm a little unsure as to what your problem is. Are you wanting to help designers with their business or are you trying to hire talented designers to complete some work? For really good designers, their desire is to do quality work, with clients they like and be compensated well for it. If you have a proven methodology or process that helps them get those types of clients you'll be off the races. But, you have to communicate clearly the specific problem you address for them. So if they are a landscape designers you can say "With my program and coaching we will get you in front of architects and seen as the go-to expert who does awesome work." Does that make sense?AV

Can Canadian consultants work as independent contractors in the states without a work permit?
I'm not an immigration attorney, but I have made trips to Canada to find clients, and this is my understanding of the laws. If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you do not need a visa to come to the United States as long as you will not actually be working and receiving payment from U.S. businesses or employers while in the U.S. For example, you can visit the U.S. to attend trade shows, meetings, conferences, etc. without a visa. Here's a publication from the U.S. State Department that may help: http://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/BusinessVisa%20Purpose%20Listings%20March%202014%20flier.pdfKH

What is the best way to get more consulting clients?
Here are some ways to get more customers: 1. Start by reaching out to your friends who own businesses and ask to doncome consulting work for them in exchange for case studies. You need to show credibility to give people a reason to trust you and work with you. 2. Create content. Either document your journey as a consultant or create a blog/vlog that will give you the ability to demonstrate your expertise. 3. Once you have content to work with, promote it via ads. 4. Lastly ask people to introduce you to people or businesses they may know could use your services. Hope this helps! I'm available for followups if needed!MB

What should my consulting rates be as a freelance developer who can also do SEO, social media optimization and other marketing services?
Pricing for different tasks that require the same amount of time from you tells the Customer (and your subconscious) that you're working at a 5 on task x, but working at a 9 on task y simply because it costs/earns more. That seems to be a disconnect. Your time is your most precious asset, and I would charge for it whatever you're doing. If you build a site, and they are happy with your dev fee, but feel like you should charge less for SEO, simply let them find another SEO guy. That's their choice, but YOU are worth $xx.xx, no matter what you're doing. Also, in general, take whatever you're charging and add 10% to it. If you're still busy, add another 10%. Let the demand level determine how much work you do, and at what cost.SL
