MenuIf I am trying to start an unlimited design services business, how can I figure out pricing?
I wanted to start a Design Agency offering unlimited Graphic Design Services. I have already seen others with the same service available now, but they only accept minor projects. I wanted to do real Graphic Design services. I wanted to seek advise on how I would price it. Then I also wanted to offer a startup package for startups.

Do in-depth competition research. Find people doing exactly what you do and call/email and ask for pricing. Make sure you have exact specs for the "job" mapped out and use the same exact details for everyone you call.
If you can't find anyone at all who does what you want to do you should dig deep and find out why nobody does it. There are probably good reasons.
Excellent question! The only way for this to work would be to have strict definitions around the term unlimited. Netflix had unlimited DVD rental in the early days and this only worked because you couldn't get the next DVD until you had sent back the current DVD.
Unlimited may work for larger projects if:
- used a word to define a short task (could be task, job or a more creative name)
- behind the scenes have a set amount of time for a job
- work out the maths on your pricing per month, less profit needing to equal the maximum amount of hours that someone at X dollars per hour may be working. Like insurance, you could underestimate the hours a little with the thought that not everyone is going to send work at full capacity but this is a risk.
- when a client submits longer work, have someone split up the job into milestone jobs
- have these completed in a defined SLA timeframe i.e. "jobs are completed 12 hours following your previous job"
I hope this helps.
Graphics Design is the most creative Profession. if you can provide to business of design. I will recommended that this is the perfect point for business.
about your configure pricing. don't worry which creativity you will get more values.
you will decide after making your business.

Very tricky. I never heard of this. I hope you can work out a profit in there somewhere when you do figure out pricing, Unlimited scares me.
What about turning the issue upside down. What if you offered defined services vs. unlimited, but you asked your clients to pay what they think the service is worth to them?
Now that's a service worth talking about.

What is the process of productizing a service? Also what are some good examples of productized services that have scaled?
2 different categories come to mind. H&R Block or other tax preparation services. The second is restaurants. This may seem like a product more than a service but I think it truly falls into the category of service, especially if you look at the national chains. Think Applebee's, TGI Fridays etc. The reason people go to these places is because of the experience they receive. The franchisors have created a system that generates nearly identical results nationwide. The first thing you need to do is figure out what makes your service superior to others out there, then you need to figure out how and why this is the case. From there you need to document it and make sure that you have a mechanism in place to ensure compliance. Granted that is a huge amount of work, but the basic premise is quite simple. You want all of the people you hire to do things more or less the way you would do them.MF

How to hire an outsourcer (Upwork, Freelancer, etc.) for lead generation for a design and branding firm?
I've been using UW for a few years. It is very useful but you have to be careful. Lot of unreliable people out there. Over the years, I've narrowed a couple of people I keep using. And have excluded others. Few things: 1- It's best to give clear instruction. I tend to build GSheet on what I need, interact a lot of Skype at the beginning 2- If you are searching for mails, do use email verification services. I find that people I work with tend to have a 95% success rate but, at the start, best to be on the safe side rather than burn your mail server (bounce rate need to be low) 3- Focus helps but if you are testing things out, you could use a platform like Reply.io to test out a few verticals and see what works or what doesn't work. 4- It feels your target markets are a bit too generic. Using UW, you'd have too wide a net. There are various ways to narrowing things down, from geos to title to company size or even keyword in company profile. Again, what is possible is to set a filter and share it with UW. Hope it helps, UW etc... are useful and best in my experience than the products out there. But it is a bit of work (no pain no gain). Happy to set up a call if you see value (am rather new to Clarity so not too sure how it works!). Best, HHH

Should I trade equity for design if design and aesthetics are really important to the value of my brand?
I would not trade equity for design work. Unless this person will actually become a part of your team and create enough value to warrant equity. Otherwise it is short sighted to trade equity for something you need very early on just to launch. I'm sure your design/brand will evolve over time and this person will have put in a minor amount of work compared to what it will take to launch and continue a successful company. Additionally, you may be putting too much weight on your brand and not enough on what you're actually selling? However it is hard to give a more detailed answer without knowing what exactly you are doing and how detailed and ongoing the design work is. I would love to help answer your question, but need a little more detail on what exactly it is you do and what type of design/branding work you need.DJ
