MenuWhat's the most effective way to create and manage a simple workflow system/process inside of a CPA firm?
I would like a step by step overview of how an effective workflow works inside of a small CPA firm
Answers
Hi there,
I am a former PWC Chartered Accountant now helping small companies and accountants improve their business. Check out our websites www.theprofitablefirm.com (for accountants) and www.financedirectorservices (for small businesses - under construction).
It depends what sort of workflow you are looking to automate:
1) For accounts production and other "back office" workflow there are some good software available. I'm not sure which country you are in but in the UK Iris is the market leading solution. Sage also has an offering for practice management
2) For general systemisation of activities Basecamp is a very good and cheap solution
3) If you're looking for automation of your marketing workflow, Infusionsoft is very powerful
Not sure if that helps but happy to chat if you need further help.
Kind regards,
Shaun
I would send everything to this guys https://indinero.com/
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you establish an effective workflow system:
1)Identify and map out key processes
2)Determine the roles and responsibilities of your team members for each process.
3)Create detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each process.
4)Utilize project management tools to streamline your workflow.
5)Establish review and feedback loops
6)Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for your team members.
7)Monitor and evaluate performance

My CPA cost on PPC channels has sky-rocketed 120% this year, I suspect a competitor has launched a campaign to drive up my CPA costs. See details..
Assuming this is a search campaign, you should be able to see if any new competitors are regularly showing for your keywords. I would also investigate if CPCs have changed (or just conversion rate), how your impression share has changed, and how your average position has changed. If their campaigns are profitable, they will probably continue to run them. Your best bet in the meantime is to optimize your CPC, CTR (helps with CPCs), and conversion rate. You have the history and experience, which should be to your advantage against a new competitor.FP

Should I hire a bookkeeper? (what does one do exactly?)
NIcole is right. When I first started my business I thought I was saving money by doing my own bookkeeping. It took me much longer than it would take a bookkeeper - all time that I was not spending on marketing or billable activities. And in the end I made errors which made the initial work of the bookkeeper longer. I now have a consistent routine. My bookkeeper picks up all my material monthly and does my books in less than 2 hours. Very worthwhile.RL

Are promissory note installments considered capital gains? I'm selling my website and would love insight on the financial details.
Yo are talking apples and oranges. Capital gains are related to your basis not the form of payment. If you are a cash basis taxpayer, you pay taxes when you receive cash beyond your basis. We can help you with structure.JH

Are there examples of corporate departments that have been turned into profit centers? Such as in-house advertising, market research or R&D functions?
I don't think it is what you are looking for, but MailChimp.com was created by mistake from a services agency. They were sending emails for their clients and the next thing you know, they were making most of their money from send costs and the rest is history. Sorry I can't be more help.JM

Office Manager/Adin or Bookkeeper? We have a position for 40 hours, 10-15 hours of bookkeeping, 10-15 hours of HR, and 10-15 hours of admin
Bookkeeping and Admin roles are completely different, if a person knows debita and credits doesn't mean that he/she is a good bookkeeper, sometimes there are situations where you need expert advise which an experienced bookkeeper can provide because they are experienced and skilled. Sitting on two hourses very rarely makes sense. If you hire somebody to manage both roles you are going to feel stress over a time because in this situation you have to invest more of your time along with that person to manage things in organised way. I would suggest to hire seperate individuals for these roles because of the price variation, time required to manage specific tasks, expertise etcAM
