I have two clear goals:
1) To create a second source of income through a blog.
2) To combine my management accounting designation and passion for personal development to generate content that can help businesses become efficient in operations and effective in working as a team.
However, promotion and marketing is not my strong suite so my question is starting out on the venture of starting a blog and monetizing it, what should the focus be for the 3 months?

I believe that Content vs promotion will not give you the desired results. Instead, you should try content promotion. A strong content promotion strategy will include a multi-channel approach. Too often marketers think of digital marketing as an either-or choice. Having your followers share your emails and posts will help you get in front of your key demographic without spending your precious resources like money and time.
