MenuWhat are resources for identifying different options for setting up an international investment fund?
I'm looking to do some investment in some specific countries in Africa. While I have financial/legal contacts on the ground in those locations, I am based in the US and will likely incorporate here. I'm starting from zero in terms of experience and will be focusing on small opportunities to cut my teeth. Where can I find some resources to do my initial homework in terms of fund structure and regulatory requirements on the US side?

What is the best country in the world to incorporate an internet company in? Is there any disadvantage to not being in Silicon Valley or similar?
We recently did a beta launch of Incorporations.IO which is an international incorporation comparison matrix. The tool aims to objectively answer this question: "What is the best country to incorporate a company" based on user input and criteria that is customizable. The reason this question is (almost) impossible to answer is that for each individual situation, the best place to incorporate may change, and is highly subjective. If you want to raise money in Silicon valley, then a Delaware C-corp is the preferred entity of choice. But not every business has this as a goal. For instance, what if you are a digital nomad that wants to legally minimize taxes on profits - or you want as little paper work as possible (using our tool, you can see how long it is estimated to complete filings on a yearly basis). What if you are starting a bitcoin company, what is the most favorable environment for that? Another aspect of incorporation that is important is tax treaties. If you are trading internationally, oftentimes this is a very important consideration to benefit from certain exemptions, or avoid other headaches, such as with-holding tax, for starters. We have an entire aspect of the application making it transparent and easy to see if the country you select has a tax treaty (either DTC or TIEA). Try out our tool - it's free to try (you don't even need to put in your email) and we'd love to hear your feedback. i@incorporations.ioEJ

What's the best way to raise money for a Coworking space expansion?
If you have an existing space, why not consider leveraging the current tenants for part of the money needed? Spend some money (tenants can pitch in for that instead) in a fundraising party! Invite local band, caterer (ask for discount in exchange of promotion) have some context for the event such as idea pitching, or brownbag, etc... as the main entertainment... sell tickets for that event. Might not give you all you need but will help get there. _ aim for double what you spend at a minimum! Try gofundme.com Get in the news and ask for community support. Get infront of the local development offices ans ask for grants (this is common) as it helps development. These are just some ideas. best of luckHV

How does a Chinese startup expand into a global market?
There are many things to consider, and nobody can advise you on everything. 1 thing I would emphasize is this: Brand names outside China are VERY different from website or company names inside China. In order to communicate effectively with a global audience, you should be careful to choose the right name (and domain). It should be memorable and have positive associations in English AND in the languages of other countries where you expect to do business. Also, your website content ought to be written by native speakers for your target languages.JP

Where should my online business be registered?
Thanks for your question, it is very interesting and a question our client often have. I am an international business lawyer and often have to deal with this kind of situation. To answer your question briefly, in general principles, your business is resident where is located your head office (which is in most case dictated by your governing law). To answer your question fully, I think it would be helpful to know exactly why you need to establish "where is your business" since the interpretation principles may vary depending of the reason i.e. tax, corporate, contract, etc.CS

Which governing law is best to use for an NDA between a Swedish and a Hong Kong company?
The HKG company has the same commercial law set of UK, that said, between the two it would be safer using an NDA fitting the latter.PA
