Question
My company, www.ptengine.com, has a good web analytics/heatmap app that is currently desktop browser-only. The problem is, so what? There are dozens maybe more offerings out there. Their advantage is ease of use, affordability, and objectively the best heatmaps in the market. I'm trying to figure out how to make these videos and convey the values very clearly, because most people don't think much about analytics. The general attitude is, "I have Google Analytics, which is free, and it's Google, so it must be the best right?" *facepalm*
Answer
I'm one of the co-founders at Yum Yum Videos (https://www.yumyumvideos.com), an explainer video company that’s been around for over 10 years. We've worked with brands like Amazon and McKesson, but also tons of startups and scale-ups.
From what we’ve seen, the key to a killer explainer video is nailing the messaging. If you can clearly define the problem you're solving and who you're solving it for, you're already halfway there. The rest—scriptwriting, design, animation, voiceover, etc.—can (and honestly should) be handled by a team that does this every day.
It’s super time-consuming to do it all in-house, and unless video is your main product, it’s hard to justify the learning curve.
So: focus on the core message, and partner with a team that can bring it to life the right way. Happy to chat if you’re exploring options.
