MenuI am interested in reskinning apps for Android.Does reskinning the available source codes just add to the numerous existing similar apps?
I want to make a few apps but I don't want to increase my portfolio by just creating mere clones of already existing apps. Is reskinning a profitable venture? From where can I source good and quality source codes for Android?

Not necessarily, if your app can potentially serve different markets with different demographics, it may be beneficial to market to each market individually. Since app interface often serves as a marketing tool, it is important that it resonates with its target audience. This means having a different interface for the same set of functionalities depending on your audience may be prudent.
On the contrary, if you are simply trying to create variations of the app for a single market by short-cutting user testing and hoping that one of the interfaces will generate more interest, you are then over-saturating the market and may actually hurt yourself by creating unnecessary confusion for your users. I would suggest looking into what other apps your target audience is using and working off that to create a single user experience which would resonate with them.

Reskinning is a fast and inexpensive way to test a market with your idea. For example, if you have an idea for a photo booth app, you can dramatically reduce your costs by licensing a source code from Chupamobile.com or Brightnewt.com. If the app monetizes well (which depends just as much on marketing as on your concept), then you can iterate and tweak monetization. The thing to keep in mind is that your app, even if it uses an existing codebase, must be beautiful, unique, and entertaining (or helpful). Cloning existing apps won't necessarily translate into a profitable portfolio. But taking a popular type of app like a photo booth app, giving it a fresh, interesting theme, and putting a smart marketing plan behind it can be a really smart angle on the app business. Whether or not reskinning is a profitable venture depends on the person. I've developed over 30 apps for iOS and Android, and am happy to share more insights. Hope this helps, Austin

Is there anywhere I can trade my mobile & web UI/UX design service for web and mobile dev help?
I value your request for help. However, my experience is that a straight barter of design services for development services is not necessarily equitable, as design is most often a fraction of overall development effort and cost, albeit, design is critical and sets the stage for success in a project. At DVmobile, we believe that the first 15% of a project (including design) is what make the remaining 85% of a project successful. Bartering often implies very low revenue potential in the relationship. It begs for similar circumstances in your partner, a willingness to work for services vs. cash payment. My recommendation would be for you to attract multiple partners that can leverage your services on a part-time contract basis. If you are attracting customers with your design skills, many development firms, including mine, are willing to do subcontract or partner based work. It’s usually easier to market great design skills in today’s market, than coding skills.SD

What is usual payment completion percentage after user clicks "buy" button (and knows price before clicking) in android apps (Google Wallet)?
I have noticed a 1% conversion rate to the Buy button. This is normal and anything over 1% is icing on the cake sales. That is actually 1 out of 100 sales which we notice with some of the apps we help our clients develop as well as the ecommerce websites we build for businesses. Our highest conversion rate has been 7.3% within the first week, but that was because the client had an established user base for their other apps and they advertised it prior to going live. I hope that helps and can help you with further suggestions on increasing conversion rate. BruceBC
