Paul is one of the most knowledgable people I know in the image & publishing space. He understands first hand the needs of the photographer and has a wide network of contacts to tap into when needed. He has conducted deals with some of the largest photo agencies in the world, and always comes to the table with creative win-win solutions. Paul is a real team player both internally within an organization, and when conducting business outside of the organizations he represents. It was always a pleasure working along side of Paul, and I would highly recommend him for future endeavors.
Source: LinkedIn Stephanie Palmer (Quay) Mar 10, 2014Paul brought a deep level of understanding about the Photography industry to the Stipple team. His access, contacts and insights were invaluable as the team created the Stipple product offering. Paul is a diligent and efficient team member and a pleasure to work with. He has a high level of integrity and will be an asset to any team he joins. I welcome the opportunity to work with him again.
Source: LinkedIn Nitin Gupta Mar 10, 2014Paul has a unique ability to synthesize the needs and pathways of the photo and technology worlds. When I worked with him putting together the program for the 2012 and 2013 PACA annual conferences Paul drew on his deep Rolodex and sense of the zeitgeist to facilitate forward looking and highly stimulating panels and speakers. The program that resulted was both practical (where is the money?) and progressive (what happens next?) and the word of mouth feedback post conferences has been outstanding. I look forward to our next opportunity to work together and earnestly recommend that you reach out to Paul for insight into the future of the photo-technology industry right now!
Source: LinkedIn Yasha Spong Mar 10, 2014Paul Melcher has a deep understanding of the value of photojournalism to the world today, coupled with his technological knowledge makes him a very important force in today's changing photography industry. He has always been and continues to be at the forefront of the business and is an acute and intelligence commentator on the industry via his well written and insightful blog that is a must read for everyone involved in photography today.
Source: LinkedIn Ellen Boughn Jan 31, 2014Paul is a visionary and guru not only in the photo scene but also with those involced in general modern media issues. A Marshall Mcluhan of 'old Europe' descent, he is the defacto barometer of licensing digital art these days.
His track record that runs the gamut from news agencies, to stock, to paparazzi, to pure creative imagery, and plainly demonstrates his commitment to everything that is exciting and original in visual communications these days.
Source: LinkedIn Keith Tuomi Apr 12, 2013More than a business partner, whith whom I worked several times in some of his different positions, Paul became a very special friend for his professional and personal integrity, for his competences and deep experience in the picture business industry, as well as for his constant availability to advise and to support who needs to. I will not hesitate in working in case of we have a new opportunity to, since he is definitely a professional in whom we can trust at all the levels. Work with Paul means work with someone who will do all the efforts to obtain the best results for everybody involved.
Source: LinkedIn Victor Eustaquio Apr 12, 2013I first met Paul at Hachette. He was always available for others, to help and teach. We stayed in touch and when I started freelancing Paul was one of my clients. Different approach but same contact. I'd love to work with him again on the future.
Source: LinkedIn Stephane Bee Apr 12, 2013Paul is a serious professional with a deep understanding of the photo industry, where he knows everybody. When I was distributing my work via Gamma he was available giving great advise. Later at Digital Railroad he helped me focus and reach a wide array of customers. Always aware of the latest advances in technology, he's ready to introduce them to our field.
Source: LinkedIn Daniel Beltra Apr 12, 2013Paul and I worked together at the birth of the digital photography age. He was tenacious about getting new images into our system and out to our media clients and was instrumental to our business' rapid rise to industry prominence before it was purchased by Getty Images. Paul's work brought key value to pur brand.
Source: LinkedIn Darrell Perry Apr 12, 2013As a freelance photographer formerly based in California, I reported to Paul Melcher, Director of Photography at Hachette Filipacchi Photo Group/NYC. Our collaborations were professional, timely, creative and intuitive. He was an editor and director I could count on. He was receptive to my questions, ideas and input. He knows the business. During deadline stress or pressure I could always count on a humorous quip or a teamwork attitude to get through. I trusted him. He does not know that I am writing this recommendation. I welcome the opportunity to work with Paul Melcher again.

JSJeffrey S KleinMedia CEO, Marketing Exec, Lawyer, Writer • Los AngelesI enjoy sharing the insights I gained in my 30+ year career as a CEO, lawyer, writer, marketer, and publishing (digital and analog) executive. I've been fortunate to have had an eclectic, highly accomplished career that has taught me one great skill: judgment. I've been the CEO of two publishing companies and cofounded one of them. I've run one of the editions of the Los Angeles Times and also served as the newspaper's chief consumer marketing executive, and General Manager, News. For 10 years I wrote a weekly consumer law advice column in the LA Times. And for several years authored a monthly management column for Folio, the trade journal for the magazine industry. I started my career as an entertainment lawyer representing movie stars, writers and directors, and, in the most intellectually stimulating job I ever had, was the First Amendment and libel lawyer for the editors and reporters of the Los Angeles Times. I've taught graduate level courses in media entrepreneurship, business of journalism, media law and digital business strategies at USC (Annenberg School) and Columbia University (Journalism School). I'm now the chairman of the board of a business to business multimedia company (1105 Media Inc.), and serve on the board of a community newspaper group (Embarcadero Publishing). I've served on the boards of numerous nonprofits, including being chair of a large regional anti-poverty clinic (Meet Each Need with Dignity). I currently devote substantial time to my role as a member of the board of trustees of Claremont McKenna College. I'm interested in serving on the boards of digital media companies, mentoring senior executives, and helping young people with their career development and planning. Feel free to contact me.
