Nicholas Giordano is a Professor for Political Science at Suffolk County Community College, and a former Catastrophic Planning Lead for the New York State Office of Emergency Management (NYS OEM) within the Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services. Professor Giordano serves as the Political Science Assessment Chair and teaches courses on American Government, International Relations, World Politics, and the Political Problems of the Middle East. Recognized and well-respected for his analysis, Professor Giordano is a senior contributor/guest host on Long Island News Radio 103.9 providing in-depth analysis on current issues and trends within government, politics, international relations, homeland security/emergency management, as well as social and cultural related issues. In addition, Professor Giordano regularly works on critical issues within government, including national security background investigations and providing training to senior government officials in the homeland security/emergency management arena.
Prior to teaching, Professor Giordano coordinated response activities with local emergency management officials and served as a liaison between New York State, local governments and federal departments/agencies. Mr. Giordano’s accomplishments include developing the Field Operations Guide for NYS OEM response personnel. Mr. Giordano led major planning initiatives including the NY National Guard NYC Engagement during Emergencies Decision Making Guide, NYPD Evacuation Plan, NYS Department of Health’s Healthcare Evacuation Coordination (HEC) plan, and NYS Catastrophic Planning. Mr. Giordano briefed senior executives on all planning projects to maintain synchronization throughout agencies.
It is Professor Giordano’s passion that led him to begin providing advice and support in a number of areas related to government. Professor Giordano has the unique ability to breakdown complex political issues and put facts before ideology. Professor Giordano provides advice to government officials, political campaigns, businesses and organizations. Professor Giordano does speaking engagements upon request, and has given speeches to community groups, civic organizations, businesses and student groups. Speeches are tailored to the needs of the organization and can be on a variety of topics.
