How to Handle / Avoid a Work for Hire Contract
Created 3 years ago in Business / Getting Started

Work-For-Hire contracts are the silent killers of the design industry. If you sign one as a graphic designer, you are waiving your rights to all of the work you do for the duration of the contract. Now, that doesn't mean you lose the rights altogether, it just means the employer can withhold them from you if they see fit.
This sort of contract is more trouble than it's worth and can be avoided if you know what to look out for and how to handle the situation when it arises. I'll show you how to spot a work-for-hire contract and walk you through a tactful way of getting it sorted out so that you can protect your portfolio use rights every time.
