Autism Advocate, author and writer at SFGate. I raised my son with autism from babyhood to adulthood, am well connected to autism experts and services.
I am the mother of a 27 year old with autism and am well known, though my writing and advocating, for coaching and connecting people with the resources they need. Author of A Regular Guy: Growing Up with Autism, and of autism and disabilities blog at SFGate (San Francisco Chronicle.)
Laura came to the call fully prepared based on my brief query. Her attentive and insightful listening skills, extensive knowledge, clear thinking & compassionate communication gave me both (very!) useful information and support. Highly recommeded.
Laura is a fantastic writer, advocate, and friend. Her book: "A Regular Guy: Growing Up with Autism" is a heartfelt story of her experiences and life lessons learned in raising her son Matthew (who has autism). It is a must-read! Also, I highly recommend following her blog in SF Gate. She covers a lot of topics in autism (ranging across the entire lifespan) that I find are well-written and useful. What I especially respect about Laura is how often she makes an effort to reach out to her readers for their advice, thoughts and strategies, in which she often collects and shares in her posts. She listens to others, and that in itself is what makes her genuine.
Laura is the kind of writer editors wish for -- talented, productive, and punctual. Her professionalism is expressed in the compassion and confidence she brings to her writing, speaking and autism advocacy work. I am always thrilled to work with Laura; she exceeds my expectations every time.
