Jonathan Matus

Jonathan Matus is currently the CEO of Zendrive, a startup focused on re-imagining driving. Previously, Jonathan has been an Entrepreneur in Residence at Redpoint Ventures, a top Silicon Valley VC. He also runs his own advisory firm, TICG, LLC, where he serves as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer, since March 2010. Prior to Redpoint, Mr. Matus spent six years at Facebook and Google, where he focused on various mobile and speech-recognition projects. At Google, one of the early Android team members, he managed product marketing for the platform's software releases and device launches globally. During his tenure, the OS grew from zero to global best-selling mobile platform. In his role as the Head of Product Marketing in Asia Pacific, Mr. Matus lived in Tokyo and jumpstarted regional device launches and relationships all over Asia. He received the Google Founders Award and Android Founders Award in recognition for his contributions. At Facebook, Mr. Matus launched Mobile Platform and led product marketing with mobile developers (Android, iOS and HTML5). He also worked on various mobile monetization projects, including mobile web payments and mobile app-install ads. During his tenure at Facebook, Mr. Matus authored seven patents in various aspects of mobile technology- UX, Monetization and Social Graph. He attended Harvard University, where he graduated cum laude with an Honors thesis on Artificial Intelligence. He lives in San Francisco and is working on his new venture while mentoring and advising start-ups in Israel, New York and Silicon Valley. He is also a self employed independent consultant.

Jonathan is a truly great asset to UpWest Labs, and has been incredibly helpful to our startups.

Jonathan is able to quickly understand the key issues that the startup are faced with, and then offers insightful observations and actionable feedback. His critical advice has often lead to fantastic product improvements, enhanced marketing messaging, etc

For over a year, we worked closely together to launch Facebook Platform on mobile. This was a small, fast, and scrappy team that Jonathan was a key member of. Along the way, he had valuable product feedback and handled marketing for the project.

Post launch, he continued working on Platform on mobile, including speaking at events. He did a great job at speaking clearly to an audience of highly technical folks, while motivating them to build using Facebook APIs.

Jonathan is one of the most passionate guys I have worked with. He has this innate ability to perceive the big picture. I've worked with Jonathan on many occasions in the past 3.5 years at Google, and it's always a pleasure. He's on the ball, detail-oriented, and most importantly understands the important role that the product team and engineers play in marketing a product. Jonathan is the real thing. We needed support for a strategic launch in Japan and Jonathan parachuted in during the frantic month leading up to the launch and made huge contributions. Jonathan quickly got up to speed and made himself an integral part of the team. Jonathan is smart, hard-working, creative, and cool under pressure (even immense pressure). Jonathan never got flustered, even though he was in a country with which he was unfamiliar, was always facing intense deadlines and had to overcome numerous distractions, roadblocks and last minute surprises. It is one thing to be good at your job under normal circumstances, but it takes excellence and real strength to be good at your job while all heck breaks loose around you. Jonathan has those qualities and I would be glad to have him at my side again anytime.
