It is not a matter of IF it is a matter of WHEN.
Data Recovery is EXPENSIVE. Data Loss is simple and INEXPENSIVE to prevent.
The macLifestyle Team and I can design a backup solution to protect your data!
The most common misunderstanding regarding data is, having a copy of files on an external drive is a back up. This is not a backup. It is a protection against hard drive failure. This is only one of the many types of data loss you WILL eventually experience without a complete backup solution...
A True Backup Solution Will Cover All Types Of Data Loss:
A copy does protect you against a Hard Drive Failure
A copy doesn't protect you against File Corruption (spontaneous and often without explanation)
A copy doesn't protect you against Human Error (deleting files by mistake or overwriting files)
A copy doesn't protect you against Catastrophic Damage (someone dumps coffee onto your hard drive)
A copy doesn't protect you against Viruses or Trojans
A copy doesn't protect you against Software Bugs (can wipe out data)
A copy (local) doesn't protect you against a Fire, Theft, Flood or Natural Disaster
Backup Solutions Include:
File History: You can go back before the corruption and restore the file. If you accidentally overwrite your PhD thesis with garbage, copying those files to an external drive will only ensure you have multiple copies of garbage. A backup ensures that you can restore your PhD thesis.
Geographic Backups: This is the most inexpensive and simple type of backup. It provides protection against Fire, Theft, Flood, Natural Disaster, Etc. You should absolutely have backups of critical data in two different geographic locations. How separate those locations are depends on how critical the data is. Keeping copies in two different buildings in the same city protects against fire or theft. Keeping copies in two different states or countries protects against bigger problems.
Data Recovery:
If you do not employ a data backup solution you WILL need data recovery eventually. The macLifestyle Team and I and our partners can help you recover your data.
Remember, without a proper backup solution it is not a matter of IF it is a matter of WHEN.
