Search Engine Optimization (SEO). What It Is, What It Isn't and How It Helps You
Created 9 years ago in Sales & Marketing / Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a very complex topic.
Most people in business have heard of it or have been told that it's important, and know they must do some type of SEO to help their business get exposure online.
Many so-called "experts" will say they know everything about SEO and how to help you rank on Google fast. Most aren't really experts. I'm not here to tell you I'm the biggest expert on SEO, but with over 10 years of experience in SEO working on client's websites, and running a digital marketing agency with paying clients, I'd say I know quite a lot.
SEO is divided primarily into two categories: 1) On-page SEO 2) Off-page SEO. This is the first thing everyone should explain to you.
On-page SEO refers to actions you can take on your business website, which will help you rank higher on search engines. These may include services such as updating a website's meta tags, meta title, meta description (code "behind the scenes of your website"), your website's content, and other items related to your site. You have full control of your site, so you're a100% in control of your on-page SEO.
Off-page SEO is trickier. It refers to actions and things you must do outside your website, which you have much less control over. These off-page SEO actions include writing content on other people's websites/blogs (such as guest blog posts, reviews, etc.) with a link back to your website. This "link" is called a "Backlink." Backlinks are the backbone of ranking high on Google. The more you have, the better you'll rank.
I've been helping small businesses with their local, and global SEO strategies rank higher in Google. It's a game that takes time, patience, and a long-term strategy. Super important if you want to rank naturally (organically) on Google, instead of paying for ADs forever.
