Work-life balance in one of the world’s richest countries can feel incredibly difficult. But often, it feels harder than it has to be when we don’t manage our time intentionally. The foundation of work-life balance isn’t time, it’s discipline.
Take a step back and evaluate your day. Break down how you spend your time. For me, I’ve been managing this company for the past eight years. Building and scaling a business meant sacrificing a lot. I’m in the showroom six days a week, with Fridays as my only off day. Realistically, my life has been about 80% work and 20% personal time. Even then, I’m grateful that I’ve been able to make those 20% of moments meaningful.
One thing I never compromise on is sleep. Aim for up to eight hours of quality sleep. Once you wake up, start your day immediately. Don’t lie in bed scrolling through social media. Get up, shower, have breakfast, and get ready. Better yet, prepare your work clothes on your off day so your mornings become effortless.
It may seem like a small habit, but discipline compounds. Spending just 30 minutes preparing your clothes once a week could save you 10 to 15 minutes every workday. Those extra minutes could mean having breakfast with your loved ones instead of rushing out the door.
That simple example represents something much bigger. Work-life balance isn’t created by having more free time, it’s created by being intentional with the time you already have. Small, disciplined habits repeated consistently can give you back moments that eventually add up to a more balanced, meaningful, and fulfilling life.
