Symfony PHP Framework
Helping companies large and small scale to meet demand.
Building developer platforms & developer evangelism.
A strong developer, a champion/evangelist for (y)Symfony, and a passionate employee, Dustin has helped Delicious team adopting Symfony toward a successful product launch. Even after moving on to a different role, Dustin has always been eager to help, and for that I would love to have Dustin in my team anytime :-).
I hired Dustin into Yahoo! in late 2006 to help get Symfony introduced at Yahoo!
He came in and with his help and in-depth Symfony expertise, we managed to get bookmarks.yahoo.com and answers.yahoo.com and www.delicious.com implemented, using Symfony.
Dustin is a very talented engineer with that special "yeah - I can build that" attitude, that every manager loves :-)
I can 100% recommend Dustin for any Architect / Senior Developer role.
I worked with Dustin for over a year, and was very impressed with his responsiveness, and willingness to put time and effort in to helping anyone who came to him with issues. He was a pleasure to work with.
In addition to being helpful, he is a highly skilled engineer who understands that there are many ways to do things, and will carefully consider the options rather than just rush ahead to get it done, but still manages to achieve all the deadlines and goals he has been set.
All in all, a highly skilled and dedicated engineer who would be an asset to any team he is working with.
Dustin was a great person to work with at Yahoo! We worked together on Delicious and Y! Bookmarks. He never ceases to amaze me how much knowledge he has on Symfony and a thorough understanding of backend and frontend technologies. Dustin has proven himself in a very short amount of time his abilities, breadth of knowledge, and communication skills as a leader. Dustin is a hard working, passionate, and fun guy to be around. He’s a valuable asset to any team and would definitely work him again on any project in the future.
Dustin jumped right in as our key (y)symfony platform support engineer as well as a company evangelist for the framework. He learned the ropes quickly and helped us eliminate a lot of redundant effort. While juggling demands from multiple teams and individuals, he showed commitment to architectural correctness, implementation quality, application security, and teamwork.
It's a pleasure to work someone who gets it. Dustin talks the language of software design and development, and squares the demands of an open source project in a corporate environment with ease -- a considerable achievement.
My team's collaboration with Dustin has been marked by good will, excellent communication, and a shared commitment to and understanding of good development principles.
Dustin knows a wide range of technologies but it's his knowledge of symfony that really stands out. He's very passionate about the framework and was a great source of knowledge whenever I had questions about the inner workings. Dustin also happens to be an excellent public speaker. His passion, ability to communicate clearly, and technical know how make Dustin a major asset to any team.
I've always been impressed with Dustin's ability to quickly deploy creative solutions to many of the problems he faced while distributing symfony within Yahoo. His knowledge of front-end web frameworks is formidable and I've personally experienced his wholehearted approach to resolving technical issues.
Dustin and I first worked together on Yahoo!'s Application Platform, building the front-end for 3rd party developers to manage their applications on the Yahoo! network. I was immediately impressed by Dustin's open communication and quick turnaround times.
A core contributor to Symfony, Dustin is extremely knowledgable about this MVC framework. However, the scope of his knowledge is much broader than Symfony or PHP. He keeps track of comparable frameworks such as Rails and Django to find inspiration for improving Symfony and his own skill set.
Dustin is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a top notch developer, troubleshooter or architect.
Dustin is a great person to work with and for. We first met in January 2009 as fellow evangelists at Yahoo!, and worked together regularly through June 2010. In April 2010, Dustin invited me to contribute to a project he was lead engineer on, and for three months he managed my work as a part-time member of his team.
Dustin is a skilled engineer and sincere evangelist, but his open approach to collaboration deserves special mention. I saw it most clearly as a member of the team mentioned above. He welcomed people who wanted to contribute, and actively incorporated internal and external tools. The end result was a high quality product, requiring less effort to produce, and a high degree of satisfaction for all who participated.
I am grateful for the time we were able to work together, and would be very happy to work with him again.
Dustin is both a great manager and high caliber software developer. My time spent with him working on the Symfony Framework and traveling around the world speaking at conferences was extremely valuable to me. As I evolve my own career his mentorship has helped me define the role I play today.
