Deborah Berebichez, PhD serves as a technical advisor and a data science and AI expert to a number of cutting-edge analytics technology and services firms. She has consulted numerous firms on how to gather, interpret and use data to increase impact and revenue. She has also lent her expertise in the area of internet of things to companies working with various sensors.
Dr Berebichez’s expertise lies in the areas of computational science, machine learning and the behavior of sensors as they capture data. Deborah was named an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) ambassador.
As former Chief Data Scientist at Metis, Deborah launched the industry-first accredited data science and machine learning bootcamp. She led growth initiatives, new business development and curriculum development. Under her leadership, Metis opened three new offices quadrupling its business size and activating key client relationship with new academic and corporate partners. Deborah grew brand visibility via thought leadership at conferences, podcasts and blog posts. She made key hires training and mentoring the entire senior data science team.
Deborah worked as a principal data science consultant at one of the top boutique consulting firms: ThoughtWorks. She also helped numerous clients in the financial industry as a VP of financial risk at Morgan Stanley Capital International. Deborah is also an expert communicator of complex concepts in lay terms. She co-hosts Discovery Channel's Outrageous Acts of Science TV show, where she uses her knowledge of physics to explain the science behind extraordinary engineering feats. She appears as an expert on the Travel Channel, NOVA, CNN, FOX, MSNBC and numerous international media outlets.
As a leader in STEM, Dr Berebichez is equally adept at defining and executing organizational vision and in rolling up her sleeves to execute the delivery of it. She has worked with numerous clients across different fields. She has expertise hiring and managing data scientists, but most importantly, she has the vision to know which kind of data scientists form the optimal team for each company’s desired goals.
Dr Berebichez’s topics of expertise are data science literacy, artificial intelligence, internet of things, sensors, medical devices, data-based problems, signal processing and several other mathematical and computational topics. Deborah completed two postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia University's Applied Math and Physics Department and at NYU's Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences. Dr Berebichez is the first Mexican woman to graduate from Stanford University with a PhD in Physics. She also holds a B.A. in physics and philosophy from Brandeis University and is Summa Cum Laude, Highest Honors and Phi Beta Kappa.
