Let's face it, having your team where you can see and easily reach them is ideal, but the reality is that teams are often placed remotely -often in different countries and time zones. Coordinating the activities of disparate teams takes experience and robust skills and techniques to get and keep them highly productive and to maintain motivation.
Managing outsourced teams is also an important skill to have as it is very easy to suffer delivery issues, communication issues, and contractual issues, to say the least. If that outsourced team is in another country too, this just adds to the challenge.
