How to Run a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign

After only a few months after arriving from England, I thought of a story for Uberpong, sourced a video production company, players, recruited models and found a venue. I launched a Kickstarter campaign on July 2012 and 30 days later had raised $10,390. It was the seed capital that allowed me to launch Uberpong.com.

TV Interview / Getting Local Exposure

I was interviewed on YNN (Your News Now) about why ping pong is exploding in Austin, Texas. I gave them a compelling reason to interview me: that Uberpong is leading the resurgence of ping pong starting in Austin, TX.

Product Placement and Brand Awareness

Uberpong got its TV debut on EXTRA TV. I suggested that we print Mario Lopez and Maria Menounos' faces onto ping pong paddles. They loved the idea and we were seen on TV nationwide.

Product Creation

I came up with the concept of Uberpong - to bring more color and cool to the traditional sport of table tennis. I did this by recruiting graphic designers, printing their designs onto ping pong paddles and then giving them a percentage of every sale. The paddle also works as a branding tool for businesses and celebrities.

For small business owners: If you are not investing in marketing, can you explain why? Bad experiences? Lack of faith? I'd like to know your thoughts.

I used to work in advertising and saw how colleagues would manipulate analytics to give the client what they wanted. I am extremely weary of paying for advertising with Uberpong. Regarding PR, it is very difficult to measure ROI so I prefer to reach out personally and let media outlets know I can be reached directly (this is rare for CEOs).
