Helped Kohl's and Kohler with software and system integrator selection. I've had successes and failures - both of which I have learned from. The key to selecting the right partners is having an absolute grasp on your requirements. The best line of defense is to talk directly with their existing customers. Lastly, take Gartner and Forrester with a shaker of salt. There is no substitute for gaining access to someone who has direct experience with the tools / partners.
